Understanding Full Arch Dental Implants

FAQs

What Are the Benefits of Full Arch Dental Implants?

Full arch implants use a series of 4-6 dental implants to support a restoration (typically a denture or a bridge). Compared to an alternative treatment like full-arch dentures, dental implants have a number of benefits. First, they last much longer. Implants can be expected to last 30+ years, and implant-supported restorations are much more durable than traditional dentures.

In addition, full arch dental implants provide you with a more natural smile and bite. Your teeth will never shift or move, and you can eat whatever you want, with no dietary restrictions. Another great benefit of full arch implants is that the implants actually strengthen and support your jaw bone, preventing bone loss.

Why Would I Need Full Arch Dental Implants?

Usually, full arch dental implants are only recommended if most of your teeth are already missing or damaged, or if it will not be possible to save and restore your natural teeth. This may happen due to issues like advanced periodontal disease, poor oral hygiene resulting in extensive decay, or an oral injury.

What Is the Process for Full Arch Implants?

First, x-rays and images of your mouth will be taken to develop your personalized treatment plan. Before treatment can begin, you may also need to schedule an appointment to have your remaining teeth extracted.

During your implant placement appointment, your mouth will be cleaned and numbed. Then, a series of 4-6 implants will be placed into the upper, lower, or both arches of your mouth. Once this is complete, you will receive a set of temporary dentures or bridges to wear while you recover.

It usually takes 3-6 months for your implants to heal completely. Once your implants have healed, you will come back to our office and have your permanent implant-supported denture or bridge fitted. Creating and fitting this dental prosthetic may take multiple appointments, and our team always takes our time to ensure that your restoration looks and feels natural in your mouth. Once your bridge or denture has been finalized, your treatment is complete!
